Housing Assistance

Hello there. I am a recently divorced Mother of three beautiful Daughters. I have been a long time business owner in the county of Palm Beach. I am at my wits end. Due to COVID19 The Beauty Lounge that’s my business is inside of was temporarily closed. That was my only income. I do not receive child support or any other help financially. Furthermore, As of this evening I have not received my stimulus check, have not received any type of Covid unemployment although applying numerous times. Although my business is allowed to re-open this week I am an aesthetician and my business will be forever changed. The reopening of my business Will be incredibly slow in order for me to keep everybody including myself my family and my clients safe and healthy. Even with the re-opening I cannot possibly catch up on all the income I have lost. My bills are overflowing . I have had no income since the first week of March. I have kept on top of what I could from the little bit of money I had but have not been able to pay the rent of my home in three months going on a fourth and face evection.I have reached out for help and applied for any and every sort of “relief” that I could. I am writing this story to reach out. I cannot sleep at night wondering if we will be out on the street soon. I love my county and I know there has got to be answers or help for us somewhere. Thank you for reading. ~Mikaela

#Change=Resiliency

As a mother, wife, employee and community stakeholder, balancing the needs of others is a way of life. The corona virus has amplified these needs given that families are home bound. This means that my role has changed to becoming a pseudo teacher to my child who is learning virtually, while at the same time attempting to get work done with constant distractions throughout the day. A few upsides include cooking with my son in the middle of the day, playing a game of Connect 4 or kicking the soccer ball around. When cabin fever becomes unbearable, I usually get groceries. My new wardrobe has changed from business casual to yoga pants, a t-shirt and my new life saving accessories includes gloves, masks and hand sanitizer. Shopping for food has become almost comical…when someone walks into a grocery without a mask, patrons will stare at the mask-less person with a look of disgust, anguish and/or judgment. Although people are aware of social distancing, I have noticed a shift in how people interact to that of more courtesy and patience. As a nonprofit stakeholder, we have seen the devastating financial effects on the most vulnerable populations in the community and decided to start a food pantry in April. It has been satisfying to serve food to hundreds of families in Lake Worth every week but disheartening to see the growth as the need has become so great. Because of COVID-19, systems such as the workforce, hospitals, schools, government and the like have been adversely affected but with change, comes creative ways to find solutions. The people of Lake Worth are resilient and I believe that the best is yet to come!

My friends story

She is moving slow, and I don’t get it. She tells people her business and she doesn’t come outside anymore and there is no air and her house. I am telling her if she is sick she needs fresh air even if she doesn’t wanna spread the virus.

#Night job

I work at night. I stay home don’t go out side unless I have to. I take my dog for a walk and enjoy life at home. I spend time with family and friends they come by and see me. I buy paper towels and tissue paper to give to the elderly people that don’t have or can’t go get it.

Mommy sorry

I have 5 kids I can’t get to see all of them due to the virus I work 24hrs everyday for security and 2 of my girl’s birthday coming up this month this would have been the perfect year I could have celebrated with them and it hurts them so bad that I can’t see them due to the virus ugh it’s sucks

Change….

Well, things are very different for us all. This time has allowed My Family to become closer. Not being able to do the normal things you would have taught us how to stay home, cook more, and save money.

Overcoming
