Upbringing: The way people were brought up

Segregation

An important moment in my life is when segregation is now continuing again in our community. Many people don’t see how badly people treat us . We are equal and have the rights as everyone else . Growing up here in the 1940s and 1950s, couldn’t visit the public library near My house, but instead had to travel to the “colored” library in the historically black room I attended a school for black children, where we received second-hand books, and where the school day was half the length of that of white schools, because the black school had too many children and not enough funds.

My community (Story #313)

An Important moment in life is when young man and young women getting killed and not having the same rights as white people .living in the ghetto can change a person from having manners to “get rich or die trying “. Therefore many people wouldn’t just go to living in the ghetto you have to change it yourself to prove people wrong.

My community (Story #317)

Living in my neighborhood is repeated racism and violence all over again .When you’re old and worthless you can’t control the people you want to control, kids are dying slowly because skin color and many hate themselves because of people treating them like they deserve to be treated like that .my community is nothing perfect when it comes from living in the ghetto.

Learn to love

“People may say hurtful things “ growing up a different color doesn’t mean you don’t have different blood

Always forgive those who must be forgiven

Some times I think about the past how It used to be How people treated us cause I was coming up black people told me in lake worth that I wouldn’t be anything cause I was black cause I didn’t have any lack of knowledge , they said hurtful things that hurts till this day

Change (Story #42)

Growing up where I came from their were gangs bangers , drug dealers Listen ima talk about things that can change in the future

The right thing

When I was 16 I saw someone get killed. After that I knew the neighborhood wasn’t safe. I told myself that when I get older I’m going to do the right thing.

The Betsey Ida story

In the past half a century the world has transformed, with the advent of the internet, medical advances and leaps forward in social equality. But much subtler changes which only those who lived in past decades can understand have also permeated society.

Wake up

Important moment is when me and my friends got older . When we was young we didn’t know what was going on. But we was aware of the things once we was teenagers. All the drug dealers and murders opened our eyes

No help

When my son died I realized the community is out of control. Kids killing kids . Nobody really care anymore things getting hard .
